REQUIREMENTS FOR CATHARSIS

Potential participants will write to us an informal application to include; full name, age, outdoor experience, fitness level, hobbies, sports, interests and desires. We want to hear what you seek to get out of the course and how you hope it will change your life.

We require that you free yourself of techno gadgetry while at Ranquilco: no cameras, recorders, electronic games or music devices. Headlamps and flashlights are optional, though the dark is better witnessed without them. Please leave your polar fleece at home in favor of wool or down - remember - this is a reality experience/check in the deep country where Nature has so very much to share. Times pieces are optional. Do bring your own towel and sleeping bag.

Please bring a special book to leave at the Ranquilco library.
Be aware that, other than Christmas vacation, you will be largely out of touch. The Estancia does have both a cell phone (one and a half hour hike to the reception mountain), and an email system for emergencies.

Calls are $2 a minute within Argentina and $5 a minute to the exterior. Email messages are $10 coming and going, for short messages only. In addition, there is a nifty radio service, Radio Chos Malal, that broadcasts daily messages throughout the cordillera.
Call 54-2948 xxxxx and say: "Por favor un mensaje para _______, a la Estancia Ranquilco, que el (o ella) tiene que llamar a su madre".

TRANSPORTATION

Catharsis participants need to be in Zapala at 1200 on 1 October for the pick up by van to the trailhead where we will be hiking in. Bags will be carried in by either the draft horse wagon or packed by mules.
On the 15th of December there will be the return trip to Zapala.

On the 15th of January, again at 1200 in Zapala for the entry into Ranquilco and then the return to Zapala on the 31 of March.

It is recommended to take an overnight bus from Buenos Aires to Zapala. Argentine busses are very comfortable, with fully reclining seats, hot meals, videos and smooth efficient rides. They depart in the afternoon and arrive the next morning and cost less than $50. There are flights into the provincial capitol, Neuquen, for around $100, and then either a taxi or a bus trip to Zapala which is two hours away.
www.viabariloche.com.ar is the site for our preferred bus company, and the airlines are either Southern Winds, or Aerolineas Argentinas.

For visitors, there is a $100 charge for Zapala transportation. It is approximately 3 hours from Zapala to the trailhead.
