WHO IS CATHARSIS FOR?

CATHARSIS means to clean away the nasty conditioning - a purging into purity. We call Catharsis a "de-wimping" immersion course, but it is not for the merely macho. As balance is besought, grace, harmony, gentleness, and love will come into play as both Wholeness and Oneness begin to manifest, inviting us to remember and to return, gracefully, to the present of the moment.

CATHARSIS attends the master, Nature, who will teach as she always does; sending around gentle suns and fierce winds, butterflies and thorns.Thus the course is unstructured, unpredictable, wily, and only sometimes scrutable. "Being" will be, yes, enhanced by offerings of doing, but only so that real being may be better gained.

CATHARSIS is for you if you are motivated to put yourself on the front line, to look real life in the face, uncovering the layers of conditioning accumulated from schools with their insistence on conformity and consumption. Catharsis is not an ego test - there is no competition per se, and only you will be "grading" yourself. It is for turned on folk wanting to intensify their delight with life, recognizing that the extreme challenges of today´s whirled (sic) are at once both motivating, to honor the mind and the body´s fitness, but also ephemeral, with a vibration that need not be enjoined.

PATAGONIA CATHARSIS Estancia Ranquilco, a 100,000 acre traditional cattle and sheep ranch in the high Andes of Northern Patagonia offers CATHARSIS - semester and month course offerings for people who want to broaden their abilities with Natural physical reality while also opening to understandings of metaphysical majesty. The overall objective for the participant is to achieve competence, self-assurance, and joy with the natural phenomenon which grace being, while also developing and appreciating an encompassing understanding of the purpose of life. As over population and consumption accelerate their aggression against imperiled eco-systems and the survival of once noble and thriving species, perspective is needed as we seek to understand why it should be so and to construct healthy, sane, and then fun lives. At the same time, skills, abilities and strengths are needed to stand up to the tests which are upon us and which are sure to, exponentially, expand. CATHARSIS is at once a de-wimping course, where we are weaned from our spoiled reliance on laborsaving and "entertaining" artifacts, and a re-introduction to the harmony and grace of the garden, where we may, once again, fall in love with ourselves. Ranquilco is an abundantly special place (see www.ranquilco.com), where pure Nature reigns with as little human intervention as possible. One crosses deserts, then the high steppes of the Andean foothills to the elevated summer meadows, 1,000 acres of sunshone grasses, and the trailhead towards a valley of rivers and dreams, three hours away. No vehicles, telephones, or televisions can get in. The western boundary is the border with Chile, " the High Andes ", graced by lakes, waterfalls, condors, hot springs and weeks of wandering. Pure Nature is ever further hidden from human access in today´s world. Here it shines and purrs - it whispers in winds and in the way of the shovel, the axe, the hoof as it beats along the lovely trail. Elsewhere, few hear it, as artifacts smother the gentle messages and tech´s mantle pervades. But for those who need, who just plain want to open - here it is presented in style and spiced with fun. It takes time to open. At Catharsis, the unstructured offerings are designed to provide hints, guesses, and nudgements to the way. It is ultimately up to the individual, the wide-awake seeker, to delve into wilderness ways, to nap in leaves, and meditate, starshone, beside the pure waters that forever sing their song of perfection. A striving for self-sufficiency is in process here as evidenced by the water turbine, the organic gardens, orchards, apiaries and livestock herds, the draft horse and feed plantations. Life is easy as befits a relative paradise. Hard work, sweat, and blood alternate with volleyball and saunas, and at night, guitars calm the day´s doings with the beauty of being. Technology is held at bay so that Nature´s songs may be better beheld. There is a powerful peace on the lands of Ranquilco that is motivating, instigating, exciting, rather than lulling - a call to live life to the fullest, but always with attention on harmony, no harm, and personal growth. Learning at Catharsis is achieved naturally; facilitators sharing their understandings of what Nature teaches. There is a minimum structure established and each participant is responsible for his-her level of involvement in their areas of interest, and what they gain by their experience at Ranquilco. Unmotivated, techno reliant, overly conditioned, seriously un-fit, non-turned on, complaining candidates need not apply. Please understand that with these parameters we are not meaning to be merely judgmental, but rather to perform what we see as our duty to both the spirit of these lands, and to the energy of the participants who solidly meet our application standards. "No-whining" is a beginning only, from which we proceed to celebrations of Perfection and the invitations of challenge, to finally applaud whatever happens - the great Is. Humor and Love are our main guidelines.
